Summary courtesy of IMDB
"Bewitched" ran on ABC-TV from September of 1964 until April of 1972. The black and white episodes of the series were on from 1964 to 1966. The color episodes of the series were on from 1966 to 1972. The show was sponsored by the folks at Chevrolet and many other during its run on air. This was one of the network's highest rated shows during the 60's in which went to number one in the ratings for most of it first three seasons. This was a great comedy show with lots of great special effects and hilarious hijinks. Let me first talk about the episodes which featured Dick York(1964-1969)and Elizabeth Montgomery. The show's first episode featured a young man who works in an ad agency meets a beautiful woman and marries her only to find out that she is a modern day witch with magical powers. Most of the episodes featured Darrin in some kind of predictment only to have Samantha get him out of a tight situation just by the twitch of her nose and the problems of the day were solved. Samantha was just that too,she could whip up something out of the blue and have it ready for Darrin when needed to or get her husband out of the arms of some jealous hussy in which Sam would make her vanish or make mischief out of a something,so with Sam and Darrin it was always the unexpected only to make it worst by having Sam's mother Endora in the mix, played by Anges Moorehead who was always inferioring with their married lives and making choas for Samantha. The chemistry between Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York was so good that the two were featured in an animated episode of "The Flintstones". Also, the Dick York episodes were the best out of the bunch and from there let me just say that York was a comic genius with impaccable timing and great comedic flair for the role of Darrin.

All of that change in the fall of 1969 when Dick Sargent(1969-1972) took over the role of Darrin and from there it was not the same and also on that same note the show's ratings were deminishing at a faster rate and to point out the show's comic appeal was gone in which a comment was quoted as saying as follows:"When Dick York left Bewitched, most of the magic went with him". This is very true. However, the only two funny episodes with Dick Sargent were The Catch Phrase, and the one where Endora puts an ancient spell on Darrin where Sam goes back in time to the days of Salem to rescue her husband and herself from a certain fate. As for the rest of the characters on the show, let me say that there were some memorable ones including the role of Stephens' next door neighbors The Kravitzes, especially the always spying and extremely nosy Mrs. Kravitz who was always snooping around the Stephens' house for anything or something and with her it was very funny which was played by two actresses: Mrs. Kravitz #1-Alice Pearce(1964-1966),and also Mrs.Kravitz #2-Sandra Gould(1966-1972). Also, who can forget the hilariously funny Uncle Arthur(played the great Paul Lynde),Aunt Clara,Dr. Bombay(played by Bernard Fox) and a host of other characters including Willie Mays.....

The other episodes also gave Darrin and Samantha a beautiful baby girl named Tabitha and just like her mother she also possess magical powers. Tabitha was played by Erin and Diane Murphy(1966-1972),and later on a baby boy named Adam who was also a witch too with magical powers but was on Darrin's side of the family. Adam was played by David and Greg Lawrence(1969-1972). The show dealt with a lot of issues at the time but they were never ever noticed---in other words it was very hush hush--- issues that dealt with bigotry, mixed marriages, feminism, mass hysteria, and the supernatural, not to mention the male ego. One episode I do recall seeing this were Tabitha brings over her best friend named Lisa to her house and the parents were in fact African-American since Lisa's father work at the ad office with Darrin, but it was not only funny, but it gave us a view on how we look at ourselves as equals to not to judge anyone by the character or creed of a person and Elizabeth Montgomery did an excellent job with that.
